Hughes and Perrigo Named SLIAC Players of the Week

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) announced the Players of the Week for May 2, and Westminster's baseball senior Deion Hughes was named the SLIAC/Diamond Sports Pitcher of the Week and softball's senior Shannon Perrigo was named the SLIAC Hitter of the Week.

Hughes, a senior pitcher from Jefferson City, Mo., is the SLIAC/Diamond Sports Pitcher of the Week after recording his 10th win of the season in game two of a three game series against Iowa Wesleyan. Hughes worked five innings in the game, allowing no runs and just three hits while striking out five. Hughes retired the final six batters he faced. Hughes currently leads the SLIAC in wins and is first in complete games and shutouts while ranking second in earned-run average and fourth in strikeouts.

Perrigo, a senior designated hitter from Tebbetts, Mo., is SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week after racking up seven hits over four conference games, driving in seven and hitting a home run. Perrigo went 3-for-5 in a doubleheader against Blackburn, helping her team win both games. She followed by picking up four more hits in a doubleheader against Principia, both wins. In game two of the doubleheader, Perrigo was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three runs batted in. On the week, Perrigo was 7-for-10 at the plate with three runs scored and a 1.000 slugging percentage.
