Johnson and Branneky Named SLIAC Hitters of the Week

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) announced the players of the week for April 18, 2016, and Westminster's Alyssa Johnson and Tanner Branneky grabbed the two Hitter of the Week spots.

Alyssa Johnson, a junior catcher from Midlothian, Ill., is the SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week after hitting .692 with two home runs and 10 runs batted in while helping the Blue Jays go 4-0 on the week. Johnson closed out the week with three straight three hit games. She was 3-for-3 with one home run and four RBI in game two against Fontbonne, helping the Blue Jays wrap up a sweep of Fontbonne. She then went 3-for-4 with a walk-off home run and five RBI in game one against Iowa Wesleyan. On the week, she was 9-for-13 at the plate, scoring three runs and finishing with a 1.231 slugging percentage.

Tanner Branneky, a junior outfielder from St. Louis, Mo., is the SLIAC/Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week after leading the Blue Jays offense to a sweep of Eureka last weekend. He hit .636 on the week with two home runs and five runs batted in. He had at least two hits in all three games of the series, going 3-for-4 in the third and final game. Branneky finished the week 7-of-11 at the plate, recording a 1.455 slugging percentage. Branneky also scored three runs in the weekend series.

The softball team has eight games left in regular season, and baseball has nine games left on their schedule.
