Westminster Baseball Explodes for 18 Runs, Shutout of St. Joseph's

Kissimee, Fla. - Westminster baseball exploded for 18 runs in the 18-0 shutout of St. Joseph's-Brooklyn.

With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 3-4, including 3-1 on over spring break.

The Blue Jays got right to scoring in the top of the first inning, after Zach Stiles and Zach Eisenreich both reached on a walk and hit by pitch, respectively. The first two runs of the game came from Branden Beeler, who lined a double to right field to score both runners and take an immediate 2-0 lead. Will Stonecipher then hit a single to score Beeler just two batters later. After a Rob Shifrin single and a walk from Braden Beasley, Drew Bax drove in Shifrin for the fourth and final run of the inning.

Westminster didn't stop in the second, adding four more runs. Stiles and Eisenreich singled to start the inning followed by a walk from Beeler to load the bases. Hayden Hirschvogel, who hit the game-winning hit a day earlier against Ramapo, stepped up to the plate and reached first on an error, which scored two Blue Jay runs. Another Stonecipher single cleared the bases to score both Beeler and Hirschvogel to take the 8-0 lead after two innings.

Despite not scoring in the third inning, just one of two innings where Westminster didn't record a run, the Blue Jays got back to their scoring ways in the fourth. Hirschvogel led off with a single and Stonecipher drove him home in the next at bat, making the score 9-0 after four innings.

In the fifth inning, Eisenreich drew a walk followed by back-to-back doubles from Beeler and Hirschvogel to add two more runs. Nick Bohannon and Bax then hit back-to-back doubles later in the inning to score Tyler Bise and and Hischvogel to go up 13-0.

Westminster added their final five runs in the most explosive inning of the game in the seventh. After a Bohannon double, and Bax and Ethan Rackers reaching by a hit by pitch and a walk, Jacob Adrian knocked in an infield single to drive in a run before Tanner Nowatzki hit a bases-clearing double to center field.

The final run of the game was recorded on a fielder's choice on a ball put in play by Bise to score Nowatzki, making the final 18-0.

Mason Kirkweg took the win for Westminster, pitching six innings and giving up just two hits while recording six strikeouts.

Four Blue Jays recorded three RBIs, including Nowatzki, Beeler, Stonecipher, and Bax while eight Blue Jays had at least one RBI. A total of 10 Blue Jays recorded 16 of the team's hits.

Westminster plays its last series in Florida Friday against Rutgers-Camden before returning home to begin St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
