Westminster Baseball Completes Sweep of Iowa Wesleyan; Dickneite Pitches Shutout, Four Blue Jays Homer

MT. PLEASANT, Iowa - Westminster baseball earned two wins in a doubleheader victory over Iowa Wesleyan, sweeping the three-game series.

The Blue Jays improve to 8-7 overall and 4-2 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with the wins. 

Westminster started the scoring in the second after Will Stonecipher became the first Blue Jay to cross the plate, scoring after a routine groundball. 

Zach Eisenreich added the second run of the game on a solo home run to left field, the first of the junior's career, making the score 2-0 after three innings. 

In the bottom of the inning, the Tigers came back to score two runs to even the score at two runs apiece, but the Blue Jays answered with a six-run fourth inning to keep the Tigers out of contention. 

Ethan Rackers and Eisenreich started the scoring, each with a sacrifice fly to score Zach Stiles and Ryan Klimkiewicz. Hayden Hirschvogel added another RBI, a single through the left side to score Michael Skinner. Ryan Clavinthen doubled up the middle for his seventh RBI of the weekend to send home Branden Beeler. Stonecipher completed the Blue Jay scoring with a single to score both Clavin and Hirschvogel, making the final score 8-2. 

Mason Kirkweg took the win on the mound, pitching six innings and giving up two runs on seven hits, striking out seven. 

In game two, Alex Dickneite recorded an impressive shutout performance while the Blue Jay offense took over to win 15-0. 

Three Blue Jays added home runs in the game including Beeler and Clavin with solo shots and a three-run homer from Trevor Rhoads

Nine Blue Jays added RBI, including multiple RBI from Rhoads, Skinner, Rackers, and Hirschvogel. Eisenreich added three hits, recording three runs.

Dickneite was dominant in the win, pitching seven innings and giving up just two hits, striking out 10. 

The Blue Jays return home to face Greenville Wednesday for a doubleheader at Saucier Field. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
