St. Louis, Mo 4/4/2023- The Westminster Blue Jays baseball team was back in action today against the Washington University Bears. They played one game and the Blue Jays lost 18-8.

Game 1- Washington University: Box Score

The Blue Jays had a hard-fought game against the Bears. On the mound for the Blue Jays Ben Kennebeck (St. Louis, MO / St. Louis University High). Kennebeck pitched two hard innings against the strong offense of the Bears; he struck out 2 batters and was filling up the strike zone with 62% of his pitches as strikes. In relief to help Kennebeck were multiple Blue Jays with holds of (Kobe Allen (Maryland Heights, Mo / Pattonville), Nathan Shepard (Warrenton, Mo. / Warrenton), Troy Romero (Trophy Club, TX / Byron Nelson), Matt Trout (Lee's Summit, Mo. / Blue Springs South), Brayden Knittel (Ballwin, Mo / Marquette), Sam Owen (Katy, Tx. / Cinco Ranch), and Brooks Chandler (De Land, FL / De Land). Out of all the relievers they faced 41 batters striking out 9 of them and only gave up 9 hits.

Offensively for the Blue Jays, 10 hits were not even to keep up with the Bears. Dawson Schuemann (Jefferson City, Mo. / Jefferson City) went 2-2 with 2 RBIs. Quin Smith (Lee's Summit, Mo. / Rockhurst) went 2-3 with a double and scored a run. Trent Rueckert (Kansas City, Mo / Platte County) went yard for his first of the season with a 2-run homerun. Chris Louie (Calgary, Alberta Canada / Willliam Aberhart) ended the day going 2-3 getting an RBI and scoring 2 of the Blue Jays' runs.

The Westminster College baseball team is going to have a busy weekend at Saucier Field. They have a doubleheader Friday, April 7th against Fontbonne University starting at 2 p.m. and the next game following. Then they finish the series on Saturday, April 8th.
