Explosive Westminster Football Offense Launches Blue Jays Over Martin Luther

FULTON, Mo. - Westminster football scored eight touchdowns to launch the Blue Jays over Martin Luther 54-6.

The Blue Jays improve to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference, while the Knights fall to 2-2 in the conference.

Quarterback Trent White led the team offensively, scoring six of the team's eight touchdowns.

"Trent was spectacular today and had as good of a day that I've ever seen a quarterback have," said Head Coach John Welty. "It was a complete game from him and I'm happy for him."

The Blue Jays scored their first two touchdowns in the first five minutes of the quarter, the first on a 29-yard pass reception from White to Matt Quarles. The second came in an 8-yard rush from White for his second touchdown of the day.

Westminster managed to score once again before the quarter is out on a Lucas Robinson reception from White to end the quarter 21-0.

The Blue Jays scored three more times in the second quarter to secure their solid lead over the Knights. White added his fourth touchdown of the day on an 89-yard run to put Westminster up 27-0. Lucas Robinson added his second score of the day on a 24-yard pass reception from White on their next drive, and ended on a touchdown from Kayln Davis on a 24-yard run, his first score of the season.

A lone touchdown in the third quarter marked Latif Adams' first touchdown of the season after recovering from an injury to start the year.

Matt Quarles caught a pass from White in the fourth for the final Blue Jay score of the game for a 54-0 lead.

The Knights managed to score a touchdown before the day was over to make the final 54-6, topping off a strong day from the Blue Jay defense.

"Our defense is playting inspired football," said Welty. "We were predicted to lose today and we were overmatched from the get go. They are one of the leading rushing teams in the conference and held them to under 200 yards." The Knights were able to put up just 143 total yards.

The Blue Jays face Eureka away next Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

"We know that we are a good football team," said Welty. (Next weekend) is like opening the season again. Last week was indicative of where we were. This week, we were confident and believed in our system. When it gets going, it's impossible to stop. We established confidence in ourselves and our team. If we unleash what we did today, it will be a track meet."
