FULTON, Mo. - Westminster football stays unbeaten at Priest Field this season with a 56-15 win over Crown.
The Blue Jays improve to 3-4 on the year and 3-3 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
"This win is important for our guys because it puts us back in a positive frame of mind," said Westminster Head Coach John Welty. "It was great mentally for us. Going into the game, we felt we had an edge."
Westminster started off the game with a touchdown from Chase Abbington on the first drive.
Crown answered with a score of their own, but missed the extra point to keep Westminster on top. The Storm then added a field goal in the second quarter for their only lead of the game at 9-7.
The Blue Jays began their offensive barrage with a 53-yard run from Trent White. The drive lasted just three plays and one minute.
On the next Westminster drive, White connected on a pass to Lucas Robinson from 27 yards, going up on the Storm 21-9 going into the half.
Westminster added two more touchdown in the third quarter, one on an 85-yard punt return form Abbington for his second score of the day.
White again added a 53-yard yard for a score, ending the third quarter with the Blue Jays on top 35-9.
The fourth quarter featured three more Blue Jay touchdowns from three different players, including two first-time scorers this season.
"You can slow one down but you can't slow all of them down," said Welty of his offense. "You can go up and down the line and point out guys who had great days. Teams have to pick their poison with us, and that shows the maturation of our quarterback and the depth of our offense."
White ran for his fourth score of the day in the opening drive of the quarter.
Crown added a touchdown off of a fumble recovery to try to start a comeback, but the Blue Jays adding rushing touchdowns from Matt Williams and Ketrick Large. The score from Williams was the first of the freshman's career, and the score from Large was the first of the season for the veteran running back.
Westminster exploded for 438 yards of total offense, including 365 rushing yards.
Six players recorded double-digit yards in rushing, including White, Abbington, Latif Adams, Williams, Large, and Kalyn Davis.
Jackson Ringhausen led the defensive with seven tackles, including six solo tackles.
The Blue Jays go back on the road for an away game at Greenville Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m.
