Westminster Football Earns First Road Win Over Greenville

GREENVILLE, Ill. - Westminster football earns its first road win of the year in a 24-14 win over Greenville.

The Blue Jays improve to 4-4 overall and 4-3 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.

"It was really great to get the monkey off of our back and get this last road win," said Head Coach John Welty. "All phases were clicking for us today and it all came together for a great win."

The Blue Jays scored once in each quarter for an even and consistent offensive attack, led by Matt Quarles, Trent White, Latif Adams, and Lucas Robinson

The first quarter score came after White threw an interception in the first drive, but Westminster defense forced a fumble on the next Panther play. The first offensive play for the Blue Jays after the fumble recovery resulted in a 29-yard pass reception from White to Quarles.

The next Blue Jay score came with two minutes remaining in the half after an 11-play, 81-yard drive lasting over six minute. Adams ran the ball in from three yards for his first score of the day.

The Panthers were able to score their first touchdown of the game with 13 seconds remaining to make the score 12-7 at halftime.

Westminster's third quarter score came from a 17-yard pass reception from White to Robinson to make the score 18-7.

The last touchdown came in the first possession of the fourth quarter, with White rushing for 20 yards.

Greenville managed to score one last touchdown before time in the game expired, to make the final score 24-14 in favor of the Blue Jays.

"Latif and Trent both played great offensively tonight," said Welty. White went 13-23 on passing with 190 yards while Adams led the team on the ground with 140 yards on 30 carries.

Chase Abbington led the team in receiving with 74 yards on six catches.
