DECATUR, Ill. - Westminster men's basketball opens up the season with a big 80-54 victory against Millikin.

Westminster opened up the game on a quick three-pointer from Romo Tabb and jump shot from Tanner Cochran to take a quick 5-0 lead. The Blue Jays never trailed once in the game.

Tabb and Jimmy Villalobos were dominant in the first half, tallying 21 of Westminster's 41 points.

"We played extremely well in the first 20 minutes of the game," said Westminster Head Coach Matt Mitchell. "Defensively, we were very aggressive and took them out of their comfort zone."

The Big Blue's best chance to get back into the game happened at the 7-minute mark when they clawed back within 11 points. After missing a chance to pull back into single digits, Villalobos hit a three-point shot to make sure Westminster kept its sufficient lead.

The Blue Jays went into the half with a 41-20 advantage. Westminster hit 7-10 three-pointers and forced 10 turnovers in the first half.

Sean O'Brien and Tabb started out the second half with a dunk and a layup to broaden the lead even more. The Big Blue never came within 20 in the second half.

Four Blue Jays ended the game in double-figure scoring. Tabb led both teams with 19 while O'Brien added 11. Both Villalobos and Collin Caywood, off the bench, scored 10 each.

The Blue Jays went 27-48 (56.3%) from the field and 8-15 (53.3%) from behind the three-point.

"Romo and Jimmy led us offensively and both showed us how explosive they can be," said Mitchell.
