FULTON, Mo. - Romo Tabb recorded his first career double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds to give Westminster its sixth straight win over SLIAC opponent Principia, 67-51.
Westminster improves to 11-4 overall and 7-1 in the SLIAC.
"Tonight was our best defensive effort of the season," said Westminster Head Coach Matt Mitchell. "Principia is a very good offensive team with a lot of weapons."
The Blue Jays held Principia to just 32.7% from the field. Their 51 points was the lowest point total allowed by the Blue Jays all season.
The Blue Jays opened up the game with a 7-0 run, but went on a scoring drought of over five minutes until Cody Shaw hit a three-pointer at the 11:49 mark to go up 10-4.
Westminster never trailed in the game, opening up their biggest lead of the first half with a score of 21-13 with 4:04 remaining in the half.
A dunk from Tabb in the second half gave the Blue Jays their first double-digit lead at 36-25 with 17:26 to play.
The Panthers pulled back within five, but back-to-back three-pointers from Jimmy Villalobos and Tanner Gentges pulled Westminster ahead by 11.
A 12-2 run, including nine points from Tabb and three points from Wands, from the Blue Jays opened up the lead with under 10 minutes to play. A three-pointer from Colin Caywood gave Westminster its biggest lead of the game at 20 points, 65-45.
Along with Tabb's game-high 21 points, Sean O'Brien recorded 12 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Villalobos added 11 points, six rebounds, two steals and two assists.
"Romo continues to play well for us," said Mitchell. "Jimmy held their best scorer below his average. It was certainly the best defensive game of his career."
The Blue Jays continue SLIAC play with a game at Fontbonne at 3 p.m.
