Westminster Men's Basketball Notches Second SLIAC Win Over Eureka

EUREKA, Ill. - Westminster men's basketball tallied their first St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over Eureka, 88-72.

Westminster improves to 2-6 on the year and 2-1 in the SLIAC.

"Today's game was extremely important for us," said Westminster Head Coach Matt Mitchell. "Our guys were committed to each other's success and played hard. We rebounded the ball well and got a great shooting performance from Nolan Huot."

The Blue Jays jumped out to and early 7-0 lead, but The Red Devils made a 6-0 run to answer. Westminster pulled away on a three-pointer from Kobe Wands, but the Blue Jays relinquished the lead after five minutes of play, going down 15-13 at the 14:39 mark.

Steven Brant and Nolan Huot hit back-to-back three-pointers to take back the lead with 11:15 to play in the first half. Huot and Romo Tabb then knocked down two more three-pointers to take the 25-17 lead. The Blue Jays tallied the first double-digit lead of the game on a layup from Stu Hollandsworth to make the score 29-19 with 5:52 to play in the half.

The Red Devils went on an 8-0 run over the next four minutes to pull back within two points, but Kobe Wands made a three-pointer to make the score 32-29 at the half.

Westminster opened the second half on a 6-0 run, but the Red Devils were able to keep pace with the Blue Jays in the opening 10 minutes of the half, never falling behind by double-digits until a Huot three-pointer at the 11:18 mark to put Westminster up 51-41.

Huot made two more three-pointers in over the next three minutes to maintain the strong Westminster lead.

The Blue Jays made freethrows down the stretch to hold the double-digit lead, finishing the game 88-72.

Huot led all scorers with 29 points, going 6-13 from behind the arc and knocking down 9-10 freethrows.

Kobe Wands followed up Huot's performance with 18 points, while Tabb added 15 and Carter Wands added 12.
