Tabb Scores 1000th Point in Westminster Men's Basketball Win Over Principia

ELSAH, Ill. -Romo Tabb scored with 1000th career point with the Blue Jays in the Westminster men's basketball win over Principia, 68-47.

The Blue Jays improve to 6-8 overall and 5-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. 

"This was a really good win tonight," said Westminster Head Coach Matt Mitchell. "Principia has two really good players and we were able to contain them for most of the game. Romo and Carter really played great defense and we were able to rebound the ball consistently all night."

In the opening four minutes, Collin Caywood hit five of the team's 10 points to keep the game tied at 10 apiece. After hitting a three-pointer in the second possession of the game, Tabb scored his 1000th point on a layup at the 15:07 mark to go up 12-10, spurring a 6-0 Blue Jay run to go up 16-10. 

Principia threatened to take the lead, coming back within one point of the lead, but Stu Hollandsworth knocked down a layup with just aobve 10 minutes to play to preserve the Westminster lead, followed by a Tabb three-pointer. 

A Panther three-pointer at the 7:20 mark gave Principia the lead back at 23-21, but Tabb hit yet another three-pointer to take the lead back at 24-23. 

In the final minutes of the half, Kobe Wands hit a layup and Steven Brandt hit a three-pointer to give Westminster its largest lead of the game at 33-26. Caywood knocked down two freethrows to close the half 35-28 in favor of the Blue Jays. 

Caywood opened the first half with five points to give Westminster its first double-digit lead of the game, followed by six points from the Wands brothers to give Westminster a commanding 46-31 lead. 

Tabb hit two more three-pointers and scored 10 points in the following minutes to take the first 20 plus - point lead of the game at 58-35 with 10 minutes still to play. 

The Panthers would never come back with 18 points in the final 10 minutes of play, giving Westminster the 68-47 win. 

Tabb led the Blue Jays with 23 points, going 7-16 from the field and 5-9 from behind the arc. Tabb added 14 rebounds, including 12 defensive, to add a double-double. 

Caywood added 14 points while Kobe Wands added 12. 

Westminster continues SLIAC play with a home matchup against Greenville Saturday at 3 p.m.
