Westminster Men's Soccer Falls in Season Opener

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Westminster men's soccer scored the first goal of the match, but were outlasted in the season opener by Lake Forest, 3-1.

The Blue Jays open the season 0-1. 

"We looked really good through 60 minutes today and then let a couple poor calls get to us and get us away from our game," said Westminster Head Coach Adam Galla. "We're young a have a lot to learn. We made some good strides today and we'll continue to grow as the season progesses."

The first half opened with a steady defensive effort from Westminster, who was able to shut out the Foresters in the first 45 minutes, allowing just six shots. Depsite the strong start on the defensive end, Westminster struggled offensively, recording just two shots in the first half and going into the locker room with a scoreless tie. 

Westminster opened up the scoring early in the second half on Matthew Schulte's first career goal in the 50th minute. 

Lake Forest scored the equalizer in the 64th minute, and the final 26 minutes were owned by the Foresters, who added two more goals in the closing minutes to seal their 3-1 win. 

Connor Bandre' played all 90 minutes in goal, making one save. Along with Schulte's goal, Brandon Rettke added two shots for the Blue Jays and Andrew Sprengel added the only other shot on goal. 

Westminster plays the rescheduled game against North Central Monday at 11 a.m. to end their opening weekend road trip.
