FULTON, Mo. - Westminster men's soccer battled in a scoreless tie for 80 minutes of the match, but ultimately fell 1-0 to Wartburg.
The Blue Jays fall to 1-4 with the loss.
Westminster started out slow in the first half as the offense stalled, failing to record a shot for the first 45 minutes. The Blue Jay defense worked to defend 15 shots from the Knights, including five on goal, to hold Wartburg scoreless through 45 minutes.
The Blue Jays came out in the second half stronger, with the offense creating more opportunities to score in the final half of the game and forcing the Knights to play tough defense.
Westminster added five shots in the second half, including three from Jephte Ngendo and shots on goal from Philip Udinyiwe and Sam Heckart.
"We played a very disappointing first half but responded well in the second," said Westminster Head Coach Adam Galla. "We started to get back to playing our game and doing all the little things we've done in training."
It wasn't until thr 79th minute that the Knights were able to capitalize on a shot, going up 1-0 with 11 minutes to play. The Blue Jays were unable to score the equalizer, falling 1-0.
Westminster travels to Central College in Iowa Tuesday for a 4:30 p.m. matchup before returning home Friday night to face Wisconsin-Whitewater.
