Westminster Men's Soccer Falls in Second Half to Central

FULTON, Mo. -After a strong first half from the Blue Jays, Central netted the final goal in the second half to take the 3-2 win over Westminster.

The Blue Jays start the season out 0-3 on the year. 

Westminster got on the board in the fouth minute on a goal from Patrick Wisnewski, assisted by Philip Udinyiwe. Central answered with a goal of their own in the 19th minute to tie the match at one goal apiece. 

The Blue Jays added their second and final goal of the match just two minutes later on a goal from Joshua Udinyiwe, assisted by Barrett Smith. In the 25th minute, Central equalized yet again to make the score tied at two goals each going into halftime. 

Despite the tied match, Central recorded 11 shots to Westminster's five in the first half. Connor Bandre' made four saves in the half before Chase Vogt came in the second half to close the match. Westminster only two shots on goal in the half were goals.

Central scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute, and Westminster was unable to find the back of the net in the second half. 

Vogt made six saves in the second half, including two one-on-one saves against a Central breakaway. 

"We had another really good effort today," said Westminster Head Coach Adam Galla. "I thought we created some really good chances in the second half, but we were just missing that finishing touch."

Westminster travels to Monmouth Saturday before returning home for a match against Nebraska Wesleyan Sunday.
