JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Westminster men's soccer defeated MacMurray 2-1 Wednesday afternoon for their fourth win in a row. The Blue Jays are now 4-9 on the season and 4-2 in conference.
In the 11th minute Justin Gerdiman fired a shot on goal following a corner kick. His shot was saved by the MaMurray goalie but Sam Heckart kicked in the rebound to score his second goal of the season and give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead. Westminster scored their second goal a few minutes later after Collin Murray headed a throw-in to Gerdiman who sent the ball past the Highlander keeper for his third goal of the year.
In the final seconds of the first half MacMurray scored on a penalty kick to cut the Westminster lead to 2-1.
In the second half Blue Jay goalie Connor Bandre' saved the only shot he faced to give Westminster a 2-1 victory. Bandre' played all 90 minutes in goal and picked up his third win of the season.
Gerdiman led Westminster with three shots and Philip Udinyiwe recorded two shots.
The Blue Jays will return home to play Fontbonne on Saturday.
