Westminster Men's Soccer Falls to Principia

ELSAH, Ill. –The Westminster men's soccer team was defeated 2-1 by Principia on Saturday. The Blue Jays finish the regular season with a record of 5-4 in conference and 5-11 overall.

In the 33rd minute Joe Wilder scored a goal that was assisted by Jacob Skaggs. The goal was Wilder's first of the season.

Westminster went into halftime up 1-0 and were outshot by the Panthers 6-5 in the half. Connor Bandre' played the first half in goal for Westminster, making a save on the only shot-on-goal he faced.

The Panthers put pressure on the Westminster defense early in the second half. In the 50th minute Principia took a shot that was blocked by a Westminster defender. The Panthers fired another shot off the rebound that was again blocked and soon after that Westminster goalie Chase Vogt made a save to end the Panther threat.

The Blue Jays responded with a strong attack of their own with four shots over the next few minutes of play. However, three of their shots were blocked by Panther defenders and the other went wide of the net.

Principia tied the game with a goal in the 61st minute. Neither team scored for the next 23 minutes. Each goalie made a pair of saves during that span to keep the game tied. However, in the 84th minute the Panthers scored a goal to take a 2-1 lead. The goal proved to be the game-winner and the Blue Jays were defeated 2-1.

Principia outshot Westminster 12-7 in the second half.

Colin Walsh and Freddy Nene each had three shots for Westminster.
