Panthers Defeat Blue Jays 2-0

Greenville, IL 9/28/2022- The Westminster men's soccer team took on the Greenville University Panthers Wednesday night. The Panthers were undefeated in the SLIAC coming into the game and would keep their record unblemished as they defeated the Blue Jays 2-0 to improve to 3-2-3 on the season and 3-0-2 in the SLIAC. The Blue Jays fall to 1-8 overall and 1-4 in the SLIAC.

The Panthers would score both goals in the second half. The two teams played a scoreless sixty-nine minutes. They would score their second goal at the 80:26 mark to take a commanding 2-0 lead to win the game.

Westminster's offense took a total of thirteen shots but only two of them were on goal. Francois Moua (Owasso, Oklahoma / Owasso) had a good attempt early in the first half and Rhys Proffitt (Rolla, MO / Rolla) would have shot in the second half but was unable to score the go-ahead goal at 58:51 with the game still at 0-0.

Conner Benefield (Wentzville, MO / Timberland) got the start in goal for the Blue Jays and would have a clean sheet in the first half. He faced nine shots on goal and made seven saves in ninety minutes of play.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Saturday, October 1st when they take on Spalding University during homecoming weekend. That game is set to kick-off at 7 PM.
