Junior Alyson Hahn hit a walk-off home run in game one of Sunday's doubleheader versus Robert Morris University-Springfield to win 6-5. The Westminster Blue Jays dropped game two, 5-4, bringing their season record to 6-4.
Game One
The Blue Jays scored in the bottom of the first off an error, and again in the second inning with junior Anne Baker's RBI ground out to take a 2-0 lead.
Robert Morris grabbed the lead in the top of the third with a three-run inning. The Blue Jays ended the inning with a fly out, and started the bottom of the inning with a junior Erica Burney double down the left field line. Senior Shannon Perrigo then came up to the plate and hit a RBI single to center field to tie the game up at 3-3. A batter later, Hahn hit a RBI single to center field to bring in sophomore pinch runner Kat Cooper and take the lead 4-3.
Robert Morris pulled back in the lead in the top of the fourth as they brought in two runs.
The Blue Jays trailed by one until Perrigo hit another RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to bring in sophomore Amber Tepen. The Blue Jays held Robert Morris to just one runner on base in the top of the seventh, sending the game into the bottom of the seventh inning with the game tied at 4-4.
Hahn led-off the inning and with a 2-2 count, she smashed a home run over the left center fence to give the Blue Jays a 6-5 walk-off win.
The Blue Jays outhit the Robert Morris Eagles 11-7. Perrigo went 3-for-4 from the plate with two RBI, and Tepen and Hahn each went 2-for-4 from the plate.
Hahn (3-2) was credited with the win in the circle. She pitched three innings and struck out three. Perrigo pitched the first four innings.
Game Two
The Blue Jays put up one run in the first inning with Tepen's RBI single to center field to start the game with a 1-0 lead.
Robert Morris took the lead in the third inning with a two RBI double, but the Blue Jays scored three in the bottom of the inning to take back the lead. Tepen hit a sacrifice fly out, scoring sophomore Leah Holthaus. Burney then RBI doubled to right center to score Baker, and the final run came from Hahn's RBI single to shortstop bringing in Burney.
In the top of the sixth inning, Robert Morris brought in three runs to take a 5-4 lead. The Blue Jays left runners stranded on first and second in the bottom of the inning, but they held the Eagles to just three batters in top of the seventh. Heading into the bottom of the inning, the Blue Jays had to score at least one run to continue the game. They were unable to get into scoring position, ending game two with a 5-4 loss.
The Blue Jays had seven hits on the game. Baker went 3-for-3 from the plate with two runs scored.
Perrigo (3-1) was credited with the loss on the mound as she pitched the final two innings of the game. Hahn pitched the first five innings of the game and struck out four.
The Blue Jays next host Rhodes College on Tuesday, March 22, at 1:00 and 3:00 pm.
