ST. LOUIS - Westminster softball lost its first pair of conference games in a doubleheader against Fontbonne.

The Blue Jays fall to 13-11 overall and 6-2 in the conference. 

"Errors and leaving too many runners stranded were critical in the loss," said Westminster Head Coach Joe Henderson. The Blue Jay totaled eight errors on the day.

Alyson Hahn started on the mound in game one and pitched all seven innings, taking the loss and falling to 7-2. She gave up just two earned runs while striking out 11. 

After giving up an unearned run in the first inning, Westminster came back in the second to score two runs on RBI from Brooke Laidley and Callie Collier. 

The Griffins stole the lead back by scoring a run in the third and fifth innings, making the score 3-2. Aubrie Vaughn and Josie Cotter each earned to RBI in the top of the seventh to make the score 4-3 going into the last three outs of the game. 

Fontbonne ended the game on a walkoff double to hand Westminster its first conference loss of the seaon. 

Katie Price took the mound for Westminster in game two. She pitched six innings, giving up three runs on seven hits. 

The Griffins score a runs in the first and the fifth to go up 3-0. The Blue Jays didn't get on the board until scoring all three of their runs in the sixth. Collier scored on a fielder's choice to start the scoring.Erica Burney hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Amber Tepen, and Anne Baker walked with the bases loaded to add another run.

Fontbonne scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth to take game two. 

"This was a good learning experience for a young team," said Henderson. "These games are vital when we get to conference. It was overall a great day and we had fun playing softball." 

Westminster stays on the road to face Principia Friday at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
