FULTON, Mo. - Amber Tepen put herself atop the record books by earning her 86th RBI and 32nd double in the Westminster softball sweep of Iowa Wesleyan, breaking the career records.
Westminster improves to 19-11 on the year and 12-2 in the SLIAC with the win. The win puts then Blue Jays into the postseason tournament.
"The girls played hard and loose today," said Westminster Head Coach Joe Henderson. "I'm proud of their accomplishment as we head into postseason play."
The Blue Jay ace, Alyson Hahn, took the mound in game one to earn her 10th win of the season. She gave up just one hit in five innings for the complete game shutout, striking out four.
The Blue Jays got on the board in the second inning with small ball, scoring on RBI singles from Katie Price annd Callie Collier and a sacrifice fly from Brooke Laidley.
In the third and fourth innings, the big bats took over with a solo home run from Josie Cotter and then a grand slam from Aubrie Vaughn, her second slam of the season.
Price then took the mound in game two, earning her eighth win of the season, giving up two runs on five hits.
Tepen broke the career RBI record in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the first, sending a two-run homer over the centerfield fence to put Westminster on the board.
The Tigers answered with a home run of their own in the top of the second, but the tie was short-lived.
A two-out rally in the bottom of the second gave Westminster an eight-run inning as they strung together six hits in a row, including two more RBI from Tepen on a deep double to break the career record.
Collier, Cotter, Price, McKenzie Meyers and Anne Baker also recorded RBI hits in the inning to give Westminster the early five-inning win.
The Blue Jays face Blackburn Sunday for an away doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
