FULTON, Mo. - Westminster softball earned a win over Wisconsin-Platteville in the team's home opener.

The Blue Jays start the season 2-4 with the one win and one loss on the day. 

"This was good opposition and we had two great games in front of a great crowd and many recruits," said Westminster Head Coach Joe Henderson. "I'm overall very pleased with the day. We showed a lot of fight for a young competitive team."

In game one, Katie Price earned the team's lone RBI of the game with a single to centerfield to score Emily Holloway. 

The Pioneers then blasted solo homeruns back-to-back-to-back in the second inning to eventually take the seven-inning win 3-1. 

Price pitched all seven innings, giving up three runs on six hits with seven strikeouts. 

In game two, the Blue Jays stepped up their game offensively by scoring 10 runs to end the game early in the sixth inning and record their second victory of the year. 

Westminster took an early lead in the first two innings with four runs, including a sacrifice fly from Brooke Laidley and an RBI single to centerfield from Price to score Callie Collier and Emily Holloway. In the fourth, the Blue Jays added another run on a fielder's choice to score Holloway and go up 5-0. 

The Pioneers came back in the sixth to add two runs, but it wouldn't be enough to stop the hot Blue Jay offense. Holloway scored another run off of a Pioneers error. Another Price single added two runs while Samantha Henderson walked in a run to go up 9-2. Brooke Bledsoe reached on a fielder's choice which scored Brooke Laidley for the 10th and final run of the game. 

Madison Ingram earned the win, giving up two runs on six hits and striking out six. Price led Westminster at the plate, going 2-3 for four RBI. 

"Katie and Madison threw two great games and I was pleased with our pitching and defense," said Henderson. "Emily and Katie were deadly and really kept the pressure on offensively."

The Blue Jays go on the road for their spring break trip March 18, traveling to Cal Lutheran.
