MONMOUTH, Ill. - Westminster softball dropped two games in a nonconference battle against Monmouth.

The Blue Jays fall to 3-11 with the losses. 

In game one, Westminster got off to an early lead in the first inning with an RBI single from Mackenzie Myers, going up 1-0. The Scots quickly answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning after walking five batters. 

"Our extreme youth along with poor hitting in clutch situations is costing us games," said Westminster Head Coach Joe Henderson. "The girls are fighting hard against quality competition but have yet to find ways to punch through. We have to figure it out before conference play."

Mackenzie Myers scored the second run for Westminster by scoring on a wild pitch to make the score 5-2, but it was the closest Westminster could come to taking back the win, eventually falling 7-2. 

Katie Price took the loss, allowing seven runs on, six earned, on six hits while striking out eight. 

In game two, the Scots got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the second. The Blue Jays quickly returned on a single from Amber Tepen to score a run in the third, and run from Macalah Danielson in the fourth, scoring on a wild pitch. 

The Scots again came back to take the lead in the fourth, scoring three runs to go up 5-2 on Westminster. 

An RBI single from Brooklen Bledsoe scored a run for Westminster in the sixth, but it again wasn't enough for the Blue Jays to stage a comeback. 

Madison Ingram started on the mound for Westminster, eventually taking the loss after giving up four runs on three hits, striking out one. 

The Blue Jays return to nonconference action in a round robin tournament Friday and Saturday where they face Grinnell and Mount Mary.
