Westminster Softball to Host SLIAC Tourney in 2019, 2020

Westminster softball recorded yet another successful season, grabbing their second straight regular season title and earning the rights to host the 2019 and 2020 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.

Despite a loss in the championship game of this year's SLIAC Tournament, Westminster softball recorded a tremendous amount of highlights that will stand in the record books for years to come, while also having reasons to look forward to the coming seasons.

The Blue Jays ended their season with a final record of 22-18, marking the third straight season of 20-plus wins for the program, which included their third-straight tournament appearance.

The individual awards for Westminster were abundant, including the second straight year of earning the Pitcher of the Year (Katie Price), Newcomer of the Year (Emily Holloway) and Coach of the Year (Joe Henderson). In addition, Amber Tepen and Brooke Laidley were named first team All-Conference, while Madison Washington, Mackenzie Myers, Callie Collier, and Madison Ingram were named to the third team.

Three season records were broken this year including 15 doubles from Laidley, and then topped by 16 doubles from Tepen. Katie Price earned the top spot for shutouts in a season with five, and wins in a season with 14.

Tepen, the team's lone upperclassmen, added four career records to the book. She recorded 190 hits, 51 doubles, 128 RBI, and 114 runs to sit atop the career records.

Head Coach Joe Henderson became the winningest coach in Westminster history this season, recording 81 wins by the season's end.

Westminster softball earned the bid, put together by the team's coaches and Westminster's Director of Athletics Matt Mitchell, to host the SLIAC softball tournament for the first time. The bid lasts for two years and begins in 2019.
