Westminster Softball Remains Undefeated in SLIAC Play with Webster Sweep

FULTON, Mo. - Westminster softball earned a doubleheader sweep of Webster to remain undefeated in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Westminster improves to 6-10 with the wins and 6-0 in the SLIAC.

"We played as one team today, the bench came in when we needed them in clutch moments," said Westminster Head Coach Sara Stafford. "It's not everyday you find your players on the sideline 100% supporting everything that's going on in the game."

Katie Price pitched a near-perfect game in the first game, pitching five innings and allowing just one hit.

The Blue Jays scored six of their eight runs in the third inning with five different players adding RBI, including Emily Holloway, Hannah Schroeder, Mackenzie Myers, Brooklyn Bledsoe, and two RBI from Madison Washington on a bases-loaded single.

The Gorloks took the second game to a full seven innings, but Westminster ultimately prevailed with a 5-3 win.

Westminster opened the game with a first inning, two-run home run from Schroeder, scoring Taylor White

The third run of the first inning came on a single from Brooklyn Bledsoe, scoring Hannah Hirschvogel to take an early 3-0 lead.

The Gorloks answered in the second with a run to make the score 3-1 after two innings, but Westminster added two more runs in the fifth to increase their lead to 5-1 on a double from Bledsoe, scoring Myers and Riley Houts

Webster tried to regain the lead in the sixth by adding two more runs on a double, but Bailee Zemianek earned the two-inning save in the 5-3 Westminster win.

"We were pretty close to perfect today and that's what we need for the top teams in our conference," said Stafford. "Everyone did a great job on the field and they did it together."

Madison Ingram took the win, pitching 5.1 innings and giving up three runs on seven hits.
