FULTON, Mo. - After a close loss in game one, Westminster's bats came alive to dominate Eureka 16-1 in game one after honoring the team's seniors.
The Blue Jays move to 13-15 overall and 13-3 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, remaining in first place.
"The games weren't exactly what we wanted today," said Westminster Head Coach Sara Stafford. "I'm happy that we came out with the split. Our pitching was good enough to handle Eureka's batters and they did enough to win both games. Our focus has now transferred to Spalding on Tuesday!"
The Red Devils scored the first three runs in game one, adding one run in the third, sixth, and seventh innings.
Westminster put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh culminating with a double from Madison Washington with two runners on, scoring Lauren Huskey and Taylor White to put Westminster down just 3-2. Despite the clutch hit from Washington, it wasn't enough to give the Blue Jays a comeback win.
Madison Ingram took the loss on the mound, pitching the complete game and giving up three runs on nine hits.
In game two, Westminster dominated at the plate from the start of the game, putting together a 16-run effort that included home runs from Hannah Schroeder, Bailee Zemianek, and Brooklyn Bledsoe.
Zemianek led the way at the plate, going 3-3 with two runs and four RBI. She also pitched the complete five innings and had a one-hitter and a shutout after four innings of play, eventually giving up one run on four hits.
Also putting together solid days at the plate was Bledsoe, with three RBI from the three-run home run to center, and Schroder, Washington, and Mikala Guthrie who eached recorded two RBI.
In between games, Westminster took the time to honor Washington and manager Kayla Pilgram.
"Maddy has been reliable for our team this season and it's always great to see her come up to bat," said Stafford. "She is not only a great player, but a great person off the field. She is one of the big leaders on this team.
"I am so thankful Kayla came back and remained a part of our team," continued Stafford. "She is a young lady with great character. We wish both of them the best in their futures!"
Westminster travels to Spalding April 23 for a rescheduled doubleheader.
