FULTON, Mo. - Savannah Hanning scored a career high 19 points in the Westminster women's basketball loss to Webster, 76-64. 

"Savannah came in and played with no fear," said Westminster Head Coach Tracey Braden.

Westminster falls to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play while Webster improves to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the SLIAC. 

The Gorlocks jumped out in a full-court press to start the game, which caused some early problems for the Blue Jay offense. 

Webster took a 22-9 lead in the first quarter, taking advantage of multiple Westminster turnovers. 

"The pressure obviously gave us some problems," said Braden. "We will continue to work on attacking pressure." 

The Blue Jays scored 23 points in the second quarter, including seven from Hanning, to keep themselves in the game. Webster, however, continued to convert turnovers into points and capitalized on the 16 first-half mistakes by the Blue Jays to take a 49-32 lead after one half. 

The second half saw Westminster take their pressure up a notch, holding the Gorlocks to just 27 second-half points. Four points from Brooke Stauffer opened the half to give Westminster momentum.

"I'm excited about the resolve we showed in the second half," said Braden. "We just have to be consistent with our energy for 40 minutes."

The Blue Jays cut the lead to 61-47 in the third quarter. An 8-0 run in the beginning of the fourth cut the lead to single-digits for the first time since the first quarter, sparked by a jumper from Andrea Zalis. 

A three-pointer from Zalis with three minutes left in the game held the Webster lead to nine. Despite the tough pressure in the second half from Westminster, the squad took a 76-64 loss.

Hanning led the team with 19 points. Zalis recorded her second double-double of the year and scored in double figures for the eighth time this season with 13 points and 14 boards. Zalis also recorded five blocks to lead either team. Payton Beeler scored 11 to reach double-figures, and tallied six assists. 

The Blue Jays return to action Dec. 17 at home against Spalding. Tip off is set for 4 p.m.
