FULTON, Mo. - A career high 29 points from Mirrakohl Johnson wasn't enough for the Blue Jays to overcome the Tigers of Iowa Wesleyan, falling 66-61. 

The Blue Jays fall to 5-9 overall and 4-3 in the SLIAC. 

"I'm really proud of our team," said Westminster Head Coach Tracey Braden. "We knew we'd have to battle a really good team. We made a great effort on the offensive glass. I challenged the team and they responded." 

After Johnson scored the first six points of the game for Westminster, the Blue Jays fell to a 15-6 deficit in the first quarter. 

"MJ (Johnson) was a beast inside and she and Mikalyn (Callahan) and a great connection tonight," said Braden. Callahan recorded three assists, all passes to Johnson in the post. 

Despite a low-scoring first quarter, Westminster exploded for 20 points in the second to stay in the game down 36-27 at the half. 

After a 7-0 run for the Tigers to start the half, Westminster answered with an 8-2 run, including six from Johnson. 

The Blue Jays spent the fourth quarter fighting to come within eight points of the Tigers. Six straigh points from Johnson below four mintes, including two steals and layups in transition, gave the Tigers just a four-point lead with three minutes in the game. 

"We battled back hard in the second half," said Johnson. "This game will give us momentum going into Saturday's game against Eureka."

Johnson ended the game with four more points, but it wasn't enough for the Blue Jays to overcome Iowa Wesleyan. 

On top of Johnson's 29 points, Andrea Zalis recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds. She also recorded three blocks, steals, and assists. 

"We will continue to work together," said Braden. "We'll make improvements and get smarter."
