
FULTON, Mo. - Mirrakohl Johnson's double-double leads Westminster over Fontbonne 54-50.
Westminster improves to 7-9 overall and 5-3 in the SLIAC.
"This was a tough battle the whole game," said Westminster Head Coach Tracey Braden. " We thought that we had the better defensive effort and we managed the game well the last two minutes."
The Blue Jays started the game out with a 10-2 run on four points from Savannah Hanning.
Afer one quarter, Westminer led the Griffins 20-15.
Fontbonne kept the game close in the second quarter, not allowed Westminster to take a double-digit lead.
In the third quarter, the Griffins took a one point lead early, but a 7-0 run started on a jump shot from Andrea Zalis put the Blue Jays back in the lead.
Westminster took their biggest lead of the game by the end of the third quarter with a 41-33 eight-point lead.
Fontbonne went on a run in the fourth quarter that left the Blue Jays tied up at 45 with under four minutes to play. A jump shot from Hanning gave Westminster the lead back at the 2:24 mark.
Four made freethrows from Zalis sealed the win for Westminster. Zalis finished with a game-high 15 points and five rebounds.
Johnson finished with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Payton Beeler ended the game with 10 points.
Westminster continues conference play at home Jan. 25 against Greenville at 6 p.m.
