ST. LOUIS - Westminster women's basketball dropped an 83-50 game to SLIAC opponent Webster.

The Blue Jays fall to 7-11 overall and 5-5 in conference play.

"There's a lot to learn from a game like today," said Senior Captain Bailey Mitchell. "No one likes losing and it makes it sting a little more when we know we can play better."

The Gorlocks got out to an early lead thanks to an 8-0 run in the first quarter. Mirrakohl Johnson scored eight of her 17 points in the first quarter, and she and Andrea Zalis combined for 10 of Westminster's 13 first-quarter points.

Johnson and Zalis continued their dominance in the second quarter, scoring the first six points for Westminster.

"Mirrakohl played very composed today," said Assistant Coach Kristen Warncke. " She stuck to her game when Webster went on a run and her presence around the basket helped us hold them on the offensive boards."

A freethrow from Zalis pulled the Blue Jays back within seven at the 5:11 mark of the second quarter, but six consecutive three-pointers from the Gorlocks kept the deficit in double-digits.

Zalis hit a half-court shot at the buzzer to close out the half 47-30 in favor of Webster.

Johnson scored the first three points of the second half for Westminster, but a scoring drought of over two minutes kept Westminster at just 33 points for most of the third quarter.

Six straight points from Ali Perry ended the quarter for Westminster, down 69-39.

Johnson ended the game with four more points in the four quarter to finish with 17 points and seven rebounds. Zalis added 14 points and seven rebounds, while Perry added a season-high 10 points.

"As we continue to work through conference play, we have to expect every game to be a battle and expect every team to bring their best game against us," said Mitchell. "Our next few practices will be critical and we have to maintain a game-like mentality every time we step in the gym."

Westminster continues conference play Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Spalding.
