Three Double-Doubles Lead Westminster Women's Basketball Over MacMurray

FULTON, Mo. - Three players for Westminster women's basketball recorded double doubles to lead the Blue Jays over MacMurray, 82-61.

The Blue Jays improve to 8-7 overall and 4-3 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

"It was great to get back on track in league play," said Westminster Head Coach James Arnold. "It felt like we attacked offensively the way that we want to and we're finding out groove."

Mikalyn Callahan started off the Blue Jays with two freethrows, and Westminster never looked back.

The Highlanders stayed with Westminster in the first quarter, tying the game at six points apiece, but a 7-0 run from the Blue Jays gave them some breathing room at the end of the first 10 minutes.

Westminster had its best offensive quarter in the second, scoring 26 points, including seven from Callahan. At the end of the first half, Westminster led MacMurray 42-27.

The Highlanders made a defensive push in the third quarter to keep Westminster to just 18 points, but the Blue Jays held MacMurray to just 13 points to increase their lead to 20 points going into the fourth quarter.

Westminster allowed 21 points from MacMurray in the fourth quarter, the most allowed in any quarter all game, but Westminster was still able to put up 22 points to hold their lead and finish the game 82-61.

"On the defensive end of things, we still need to find some consistency and keep working out some kinks, but we showed some signs of brilliance throughout the day," said Arnold.

Callahan, Mirrakohl Johnson, and Kendahl Adams each finished the game with a double-double. Johnson led the team with 18 points and 13 boards. Callahan added 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Adams added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The Blue Jays go on the road to face nonconference opponent Kansas Christian Monday.
