FULTON, Mo. - Westminster women's basketball dominated the Falcons of Kansas Christian in a 90-42 rout, claiming their home-opening win.
The Blue Jays open up their season 3-1 overall with the win.
"I was really happy with our team tonight," said Westminster Head Coach James Arnold. "Everyone was able to see some significant action and we were able to come out and get some rust off from Thanksgiving break."
Kallee Dowler hit a three-pointer to open up the scoring on the first possession of the game, sparking a 15-0 run which included six points from Kendahl Adams.
Westminster allowed the Falcons to score six points in the following minutes, but Jaden Monnig made two layups to keep the Blue Jay lead in double-digits. The squad closed the quarter on a 10-0 run on scores from five different players to finish the first 10 minutes up 27-9.
"We are slowly starting to find our flow offensively," said Arnold. "We are working to get all the new faces on the same page and we saw some flashes of that tonight which is encouraging."
The Blue Jays continued to shoot the ball well, opening the second quarter with two three-pointers from Adams and one from Kenal Miller, despite the Falcons adding 11 points in the first four minutes of the quarter to more than double their total.
Makayla Jackson hit a layup at the 5:02 mark of the second quarter to give the Blue Jays their first 20-point lead of the game, which increased to 24 points at the half as Connor Hadley finished the half with a made layup to put Westminster up 48-24.
The third quarter belonged to Mirrakohl Johnson, who scored 10 of her 18 points with the third ten-minute period of the game. The Blue Jays continued to hold their solid lead throughout the second half, eventually taking the 90-42 victory.
Adams led all scorers with 23 points, going 9-18 from the field and 4-10 from behind the arc, also adding seven rebounds. Johnson recorded her third straight double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Westminster hosted a youth game following their competition and collected numerous canned goods to be donated to the community.
"Big thanks to all those who came out tonight for our game and the youth game that followed and for bringing non-perishable food items for the food bank," said Arnold.
The Blue Jays open St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at home Wednesday against Iowa Wesleyan. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
"I am excited to get back on the floor tomorrow and dig into the scout and prep for Iowa Wesleyan," said Arnold.
