FULTON, Mo. - Westminster women's basketball set a new record for points in a game with 114 and three-pointers in a game with 21 in the 114-66 win over MacMurray.
The Blue Jays improve to 12-3 overall with the win and 6-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
"I was thrilled for our ladies tonight," said Westminster Head Coach James Arnold. "It's been a long eight days since our last action and we came out and did some really good things."
The Highlanders managed to stay close in the first quarter, with Westminster outscoring MacMurray 22-16. In the second quarter, the Blue Jays began to quickly pull away from the Highlanders, scoring 31 points to MacMurray's 11 led by 10 points on three three-pointers from Kallee Dowler. Dowler finished the game with 17 points and four threes.
"We were fortunate to shoot it really well tonight against the zone and that's always a plus," said Arnold. "Coach Matt Moore does a great job with the team through the week, working to get shots up, and tonight that really paid off."
Westminster never looked back after the second quarter, continuing to knock down three-pointers and put up points. The fourth quarter was the highest scoring quarter for Westminster, adding 39 points. Courtney Wolfe led the way, hitting all four of her three-pointers in the fourth quarter for a career high 12 points.
Five Blue Jays ended the game in double figures, including a doublep-double from Mirrakohl Johnson on 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Kendahl Adams with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Adams also added seven assists.
"Our seniors set the tone tonight, especially defensively," said Arnold. "Kendahl, MJ, and Jahne Williams did an excellent job of limiting some of their big weapons."
Dowler ended the game with 17 points, shooting 4-8 from behind the three-point line and tying Courtney Wolfe for threes made in the game. Wolfe's 12 points came on 4-5 shooting from three-point range.
Corrie Reece was the final Blue Jay with double-digit points, knocking down three three-pointers on her way to 11 points and a career high for the freshman point guard.
"It was great to see the depth kids get some big minutes and really show how talented they are," said Arnold. "Wolfe and Kendal Miller make those big shots everyday in practice. Corrie Reece really stepped up for us today, too." Miller hit two three-pointers to finish the game with six points.
Westminster continues conference play on the Road Saturday at Iowa Wesleyan.
