Westminster Women's Basketball Defeated by Wartburg

FULTON, Mo. – The Westminster women's basketball team was defeated by Wartburg 91-66 on Sunday afternoon. With the loss the Blue Jays, drop to 1-3 on the season.

Wartburg scored on a quick layup four seconds into the game before Mikalyn Callahan tied the game with a jumper. The Knights took back the lead with a three-pointer and extend it to 7-2 with a layup. Abbie Reece cut the lead to 7-4 with a layup but the Knights responded with a layup and a three to go up 12-4. Callahan made a three-pointer to make the score 12-7 and then Wartburg went on a 13-0 run before Kallee Dowler scored after grabbing an offensive rebound to end the scoring drought. The Knights closed out the first quarter with a 33-14 lead.

After the Knights made a three-pointer to open the second quarter Reese Arnold drained a three of her own and was fouled on the play. Arnold made the free throw to complete the four-point play and bring the score to 36-18. Arnold added another three-pointer later in the period to bring her point total to seven in the quarter. Abbie Reece also scored seven points in the quarter and went 3-4 on free throws. Dowler scored six points in the quarter and the Blue Jays went into halftime trailing 57-37.

The Knights outscored the Blue Jays 34-29 over the final two quarters to win the game 91-66.

Dowler led Westminster with 19 points followed by Jackie Arnold, who scored 18 off the bench. Arnold shot a perfect 6-6 from the free-throw line and showed her ability to shoot the long ball by going 4-9 from three-point range. Reese Arnold and Callahan tied for the team lead with five rebounds each. Rei Imamura registered five assists for the Blue Jays

The Blue Jays will not play again until Dec. 4th when they travel to Greenville to take on the Panthers.
