Westminster Lacrosse Opened Inaugural NCAA Division III Season at Home

FULTON, Mo. - Westminster women's lacrosse suffered a 14-1 loss to Northwestern-St. Paul in their first game of the inaugural NCAA Division III season.

Westminster opens the season 0-1 with the loss.

"It was exciting having our opening game at home," said Westminster Head Coach Kristi Crowley. "Although we came up short on the scoreboard, the team fought hard until the end."

The Eagles scored their first eight goals unanswered in the first half, but Daisey Humsey opened the scoring for the year with her first career goal with just under four minutes left to play in the half.

Northwestern ended the half up 9-1 on the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays stepped up defensively in the second half, allowing just five goals in the second 30 minutes of play, but they were not able to score again.

Peyton Hall played all 60 minutes in goal, facing 29 shots and making 15 saves. Humsey led the team in shots with four.

"I am pleasantly surprised with today's game," said Crowley. "There is a lot we can take away from today that will help us in the future. I'm looking forward to upcoming games."

Westminster remains at home next Saturday with a 1 p.m. matchup against Dubuque.
