Tessman Earns Wins for Westminster Wrestling at Buena Vista Open

STORM LAKE, Iowa. - Hunter Tessman continued his strong freshman season by taking home the lone Westminster wins at the Buena Vista Open.

"He is doing really well right now," said Coach Tony Eierman. "He keeps progressing and he continues to use our coaching to his advantage. He pays attention. The success he's having as a freshman going against upperclassmen is great. He's going toe-to-toe with them even in his losses."

Tessman wrestled in the 174 weight class as the top seed. In his opening match against Deandre Chery of Concordia-Nebraska, he won a 13-7 decision to advance.

In the winner's bracket, he then took on Nick Georgean of Upper Iowa, defeating him in a 5-1 decision to continue advancing. He then fell in the semifinal round to go on to compete in the third place round, where he was taken down by Blake Castillo of Concordia-Nebraska.

Hayden Carlson, Zach Nash, and Tyrek Cutts also competed for Westminster, falling in their first two rounds.

"There's a lot of positivity in what we've seen them do," said Eierman. "Everyine looked better than they did in the first tournament. They're learning and it's awesome to see them try things that we're going over and it's making us proud."

Westminster will travel to compete in the Art Kraft Open in River Grove, Ill., next Saturday.

"I'm looking forward to next weekend because it'll be more at our NCAA Division III level of competition," said Eierman.
