Soccer's Winning Streak Snapped By Webster, 3-1

The Westminster women's soccer team had their three game winning streak snapped with a 3-1 loss to Webster University on Wednesday evening. The 3-1 score hands the Westminster Blue Jays their first conference loss, and they are now 4-1-1 in conference play and 7-5-1 on the season.

Webster took a shot on goal in the 16th minute, but sophomore goalkeeper Ellen Woolsey knocked the ball away. The Webster Gorloks took advantage of the open net and Webster's forward put the ball into the back of the net off the deflection to take a 1-0 lead.

In the 33rd minute, junior Eileen Koppy took the ball from center field and dribbled past three defenders to square off with the Webster goalkeeper. She placed the ball in the low left corner of the net to tie the game, 1-1.

Woolsey stopped two balls throughout the rest of the first half, but the Blue Jays were unable to get another shot off. The score remained 1-1 heading into halftime.

The Gorloks mirrored the first half start with a goal off a deflection to start the second half.  In the 56th minute, Webster scored again, taking a 3-1 lead.

Woolsey had four more saves throughout the second half to stop the Gorloks from scoring again, but the Blue Jays were able to get off just one shot on goal in the second half, ending the game with a 3-1 loss.

Woolsey was credited with the loss and finished with 8 saves.
