Westminster Women's Soccer Defeats Simpson

FULTON, Mo. - Westminster women's soccer defeats Simpson on two goals from Paige Townsend.

Westminster improves to 3-1 on the year with the win.

"I'm proud of the girls for their relentless effort and teamwork," said Westminster Head Coach Jen Dyson. "Simpson is a disciplined team with a high work rate. They were challenging to penetrate in the box and our girls kept at it. I'm proud of their effort."

Despite dominating most of the first half, the Blue Jays weren't able to score a goal in the first 45 minutes and both teams went into the locker rooms tied at 0.

Just three minutes into the second half, Townsend scored her fifth goal of the season and first of the game to go up 1-0 on the Storm.

In the 60th minute, Townsend scored yet again by sailing a ball from outside the box just over the head of the Simson goalkeeper to go up 2-0.

The third goal from the Blue Jays came from Lexi Hart in the 83rd minute to all but seal the victory for Westminster.

Simpson managed to score in the 84th minute, but it wasn't enough to stage a comeback on the Blue Jays.

Westminster plays again at home Saturday against Central. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
