Indianola, Iowa - Westminster women's soccer earned a 2-0 win at Simpson to open the season, marking first-year Head Coach Wendy Sanchez's first career win as a head coach.

Westminster starts the season 1-0.

"This win is amazing for the team," said Sanchez. "It helps in establishing a winning mindset and culture moving forward."

In the 13th minute, the Blue Jays scored their first goal from the top of the box from Natalie Schulte on an assist from Gracie Koonce

Westminster continued through the rest of the half with a strong defensive effort, allowing no shots through the first 45 minutes.

In the 69th minute, the Blue Jays scored an insurance goal from Kate Ponder, who tapped a loose ball in from two yards out on an assist from Schulte. The goal was Ponder's first as a Blue Jay.

Despite Simpson's three shots in the second half, Westminster goalie Sarah Cradick made one save to shut out the Storm.

Along with Ponder and Schulte, Cara Wilfong was also able to make two shots to total seven for Westminster.

"Today was an overall team effort and this outcome proved that," said Sanchez.
