Carlinville, IL, 10/2/21 – The Westminster College women's soccer team was coming off their best outing of the season a 3-1 home win over Spalding University.  The Blue Jays were looking to take that momentum into their road game at the Blackburn College Beavers.  They did just that as they scored a pair of goals in each half on they way to a 4-0 victory Their second consecutive win raises the Blue Jays record to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in SLIAC play.  Blackburn falls to 0-8 and 0-6 in SLIAC play.

The Blue Jays struck first in the 20th minute when Madi Lenk (Troy, MO / Troy Buchanan High School) found Jenna Frisella (St. Louis, MO / Oakville High School) who scored to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the 26th minute Lauren Halamicek (St. Louis, MO / Oakville High School) blasted a shot that was saved by the Blackburn keeper but the rebound came back to Halimacek who then found the back of the net to make it 2-0 and it would stay that way into halftime.

The second half was more of the same for the Blue Jays.  A corner kick by the Jays came into the box and a Blackburn defender would foul and that would result in a penalty kick and Abby Montana (Barnhart, MO / Seckman) was called upon to deliver and she did making the score 3-0 in the 48th minute.  The final goal would come in the 78th minute when freshman Ashtin Standifer (Ashland, MO / Southern Boone) would slot a pass to fellow freshman Paige Sunneberg (Wentzville, MO / Holt) who scored her first collegiate goal to make it 4-0. That would be the final score.

The Westminster defense was outstanding as they would hold Blackburn without a shot. That made life easy on Blue Jay keeper Megan Davidson (St. Louis, MO / Affton High School) who went the distance for her second shutout of the season.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Wednesday October 6th at home when they welcome Webster University to town.  The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. kick off.
