10/10/2024 Fulton, MO– The Westminster College women's soccer team showcased tremendous resilience Thursday evening, battling back to secure a 2-2 draw against Spalding University at Kent & Judith Mueller Stadium.
The Blue Jays (4-5-2, 2-0-1) wasted no time making their mark on the game. In the 5th minute, forward Eastin Colyer netted her third goal of the season, courtesy of an assist from goalkeeper Reagan Chigas. Chigas punted the ball downfield, finding Colyer who calmly slotted the ball past the Spalding goalkeeper to give Westminster an early 1-0 lead.
Spalding (7-2-3, 2-0-2) responded just before halftime. In the 36th minute, Emma Livingston scored her first of two goals for the night, leveling the match at 1-1. Livingston struck again in the 58th minute, to put Spalding ahead 2-1.
Facing a deficit with time ticking away, the Blue Jays intensified their efforts. Their persistence paid off in the 85th minute when midfielder Annalise Beck was fouled inside the penalty area. Beck stepped up to take the penalty kick and confidently converted, marking her third goal of the season and tying the game at 2-2.
Goalkeeper Reagan Chigas was a standout performer, recording eight saves against a relentless Spalding offense that fired 16 shots, 10 of which were on goal. The Blue Jays, though outshot, made the most of their opportunities with five shots and four on target.
The Blue Jays remain unbeaten in conference play and will look to build on this momentum as they continue their season. Up Next, Westminster will travel to Greenville, IL this Saturday, October 12th to play against Greenville University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00pm.
