Kuykendall Breaks 10,000-Meter Record at Meet of Champions

Freshman Jessie Kuykendall broke the 10,000-meter run record at the Meet of Champions hosted by Augustana College on Friday afternoon. The Westminster women's track and field team placed 12th with five points. 

Kuykendall set the new record with her fifth place, 40:08.76 race, shaving almost 20 seconds off the 2015 record. Her finish earned the team their five points. 

Sophomore Taylor Howard competed in three events at the meet. She placed 22nd in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:15.20, 25th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.81, and 30th in the pole vault with a 2.60-meter jump.

Freshman Katie Herzing also ran the 400-meter dash and crossed the finish line in 1:13.92 (42nd). She ran the 200-meter dash in 34.51.

Junior Talaysha Ruff threw 20.23-meter in the javelin throw (28th) and 6.84-meters in the shot put (43rd). 

The Blue Jays have just one meet left before the conference invitational. They compete in the True Blue Twilight  hosted by Illinois College on Friday, April 29. Competitions start at 4:00 pm.
