Westminster Volleyball Adds Two Wins

FULTON, Mo. - Westminster volleyball picked up two SLIAC wins against Fontbonne and Iowa Wesleyan.

Westminster improves to 4-3 with the wins, which mark three straight victories for the Blue Jays. 

"Today we showed some grit, we played ourselves into and out of some tough situations," said Westminster Head Coach Curtis Madson. "I'm happy to see that we were able to right the ship and come out with two conference wins today."

Westminster began the day by picking up two sets against Fontbonne to quickly go up 2-0. The Griffins came back to win the next two sets to force a fifth set, but the Blue Jays picked the pace back up to earn the first win of the day on a 15-11 fifth-set victory. 

Kayla Reeg led the team in assists with 54 in the first match, while Hannah Marshall recored 19 kills. Bridget Ringwald added 17 digs.

After taking a short break, Westminster came back on the court to face Iowa Wesleyan and wound up with a three-set victory over the Tigers. 

The first set was a long back-and-forth in which the Blue Jays outlasted the Tigers 27-25 to go up 1-0. 

Westminster won the next two sets 25-20, 25-16 to add to their win total of the day. 

Reeg again led both teams with 37 assists. Marshall added 12 kills and Ringwald picked up 10 digs. 

"Today's results prove that the SLIAC is continuing to get better and deeper," said Madson. 

Westminster hits the road for an away contest against Blackburn Tuesday at 7 p.m.
