Blue Jays Remain Undefeated in SLIAC Play

FULTON, Mo. - Westminster volleyball remains undefeated in SLIAC play with a 3-2 thriller victory against Fontbonne.

Westminster is now 6-0 in the SLIAC and 9-3 overall. 

"I know I keep saying it, but our ladies keep finding ways to get the job done," said Westminster Head Coach Curtis Madson. "I couldn't be more proud of their mental ability to play this game."

The first match promised a challenging game for the Blue Jays as the Griffins of Fontbonne pulled away to win 28-26. Neither team led by more than three points throughout the match. 

Westminster returned in the second set determined to even out the score, and let the entire set to earn the 25-21 victory on the back of several service aces from Hannah Marshall, who would ultimately finish with four. 

The third was set a just as back-and-forth as the first two, as the teams found themselves tied at 19 apiece before the Griffins pulled away and took the third set 25-21. 

Westminster was dominant in the last two sets, pulling out to an early lead in the fourth to win 25-18, the largest margin of victory in the match. They sealed their victory in the fifth set on a kill from Elizabeth Kelly to win 15-13. 

Marshall recorded 19 kills on 61 attempts, while Ashley Kistaitis and Elizabeth Kelly earned 13 each. 

Kayla Reeg added 54 assists and 14 digs. 

The Blue Jays were dominant at the net, stifling the Griffins offense with 21 block assists and three solo blocks from Reeg, Kelley, and Amanda Kiso. Kiso also had eight block assists to lead the team.

"We finally showed up with our blocking game tonight," added Madson. "We worked hard and began controlling the net play and we reaped the benefits."

The Blue Jays go on the road to face Greenville and Webster Saturday at Webster.
