Westminster Volleyball Hands Greenville First Loss of Season

FULTON, Mo. - Westminster volleyball battled Greenville in a rematch of last season's conference championship game, defeating the Panthers in five sets and handing them their first loss of the season.

The Blue Jays improve to 3-7 on the year and 2-0 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Greenville falls to 7-1 on the year and 3-1 in the SLIAC. 

Westminster opened the first set on a sour note, with the Panthers speeding through and winning 25-15.

The Blue Jays came powering back in the second set, finishing the final point on a kill from Hannah Marshall, who ended the match with seven kills. Westminster tallied its highest kill total in the second set with 16. 

Greenville took the third set by a score of 25-19, but Westminster came back to win both the fourth and fifth sets, both ending on plays from Natalie Needy. Westminster dominated the fifth set by a score of 15-7.

Needy led the squad in kills with a team-high 14 kils and five blocks, followed by 12 kills from both Allie Kennebeck and Elizabeth Kelley. Teresa Becker led the team in assists with 44 and Bridget Ringwald added 23 digs. 

Westminster goes on the road to face Spalding and Fontbonne, both Saturday in St. Louis.
