Westminster Volleyball Falls to Fontbonne in Five

FULTON, Mo. - Westminster volleyball suffered a five-set loss to Fontbonne after Westminster lost a 2-0 lead.

The Blue Jays fall to 11-10 overall and 9-5 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. 

Westminster took a commanding lead after the first two sets, winning 25-21, to go up 2-0. 

The faltered the in the third set 25-22 after falling behind early in the set, unable to recover. In the fourth set, Westminster got out to a hot start and took a 12-6 lead, but the Griffins fought back to recover, eventually tying the set 20-20. Fontbonne won five of the final six points of the set to force a fifth set. 

After falling behind 2-0 to open the fifth set, Westminster scored four straight points to bring the score to 4-2. Westminster maintained their small lead until Fontbonne came back to tie the game at 12 points apiece, eventually going up 14-12. Two errors from the Griffins tied the score at 14, but Fontbonne scored the final two points to claim their win. 

Four Westminster players recorded double-digit kills, led by Allie Kennebeck with 18 followed by Natalie Needy (15), Morgan Diehl (12), and Sarah Rivers (11). Jill Reando led the team in assists with 39, while Bridget Ringwald held down the defense with 24 digs. 

Westminster remains home, hosting a quad round-robin Saturday in the Historic Gym. The Blue Jays face Greenville at 10 a.m. and MacMurray at 4 p.m.
