FULTON, Mo. - Westminster men's soccer defeated Eureka in overtime to record its first win in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.

The Blue Jays improve to 2-8-1 overall and 1-1-1 in SLIAC play. 

"This was an interesting game and one of those matches where Eureka finished every chance they got," said Westminster Head Coach Adam Galla. "I'm proud of the way our guys kept fighting and believed that it was going to come. It's a big win for us and hopefully gives us some momentum going forward."

The Red Devils found the back of the net first in the 20th minute, and added a second goal less than five minutes later to quickly go up 2-0 after 25 minutes of play. 

The Blue Jays answered in the 30th minute with a goal from Patrick Wisnewski on an assist from Jephte Ngendo to put Westminster on the board in the first half. 

Joe Wilder scored the equalizer for Westminster in the 55th minute with an assist from Andrew Yount, but just three minutes later, Eureka added their third goal to go up 3-2. 

Justin Gerdiman tied the game at three goals apiece on a penalty kick with 15 minutes left to play in regulation, followed by the go-ahead goal from Ngendo on an assist from Wisnewski. 

With just over five minutes to play, Eureka tied the game 4-4 to force overtime. After a scoreless first overtime period, it was Matthew Schulte who scored the game-winner for the Blue Jays with an assist from Colin Walsh. 

Westminster recorded the majority of the offense during the match, outshooting the Red Devils 36-9. 

Chase Vogt and Connor Bandre' split time in goal, with Bandre' earning the win.

The Blue Jays remain home, facing Iowa Wesleyan Tuesday at 7 p.m.
