Westminster Wrestling Narrowly Falls to UCM, Drury

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Westminster wrestling competed in two duals Friday against NCAA Division II Drury and Central Missouri, falling in two close matches.

 In the match against Drury, the Blue Jays fell 26-16. Travis Jones and Hunter Tessman each added three points for Westminster while Zachary Hazen picked up six points on a forfeit. Kodie Bellury also added four points with an 11-3 win. 

In the match against UCM, Westminster battled but eventually took a one-point loss, 22-21. Dalton Landreth picked up three points with a 14-8 decision, but a forfeit and a pin made the score 12-3 in favor of the Mules after the first three matches. Dylna Hellebush added a 13-8 decision to put the Blue Jays back within striking distance at 12-6, followed by a pin from Jacob Warren to even the score at 12 apiece. 

After Payton Price was pinned, Tessman, Hazen, and Bellury each tallied three points to pull the Blue Jays back in the lead 21-18. Deryl VanNostrand took the heavyweight round, eventually falling 14-3 to give the Mules the 22-21 win.

Westminster takes the week off of competition in preparation for the Lower Midwest Regionals in Dubuque, Iowa, Feb. 23-24.
