Westminster Baseball Scores 25, Sweeps Blackburn

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - Westminster baseball scored 25 runs in the first game against Blackburn and went on to sweep the series in game two, winning 10-1.

The Blue Jays improve to 11-10 overall and 7-5 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. 

In game one, Westminster scored at least one run in six of seven innings, including a nine-run inning in the fourth. 

Nine Blue Jays added a hit in the game, including seven players with a multi-hit game. Nine players recorded an RBI, including six from Braden Beasley who added a three-run home run to the game. 

Hayden Hirschvogel added four RBI while Michael Skinner added three. Ryan Klimkiewicz, Trevor Rhoads, and Will Stonecipher added two. 

Ian Cassidy went 6.2 innings, giving up five runs on five hits, two earned, and striking out five. 

In game two, Westminster continued the great hitting day with a solo shot from Ryan Clavin in the first to take a quick 1-0 run. 

Westminster added two more runs in the third, including an RBI single from Klimkiewicz for his third on the day. Two more runs in the fifth, including another from a Beasley triple and Clavin's second in the game with a sacrifice fly, taking a 5-0 lead. A Rhoads single in the sixth gave the Blue Jays a 6-0 lead. 

The Beavers scored in the seventh to make the score 6-1, but Will Stonecipher and Rhoads each hit a two-run shot in the ninth to make the final score 10-1. 

Mason Kirkweg pitched the complete game for the win, giving up just one run on six hits and striking out eight. 

Westminster returns home Saturday to face MacMurray in a doubleheader. The Blue Jays will honor their three seniors Ryan Klimkiewicz, Alex Dickneite, and Ian Cassidy
