Clayton, MO, 3/19/22 – The Westminster College Baseball team took the field on Saturday afternoon to open the SLIAC portion of their schedule on the road against the Fontbonne University Griffins. The hopes were high but offensive woes plagued the Blue Jays as they would manage only five hits for the game as the Griffins would take the first game of their three-game series 7-0.

Sophomore starter Trent Morrow (Russelville, Mo. / Russellville) got the call in game one he worked five innings yielding five runs, three of them earned, on seven hits.  He would strikeout five and walk four batters as he would fall to (0-2) on the season.  Grant Higginbotham (Farmington, Mo. / Farmington) would come on in relief to work two innings giving up two runs on two hits while walking one batter.  Tyland Lackey (Caldwell, TX / Caldwell) worked the final inning holding the Griffins to a lone hit in the inning.

Left fielder Matt Lukins (Clark, MO / Rock Bridge) led the Jays at the plate going 2-4 in the game.  Ryan Mills (Festus, MO / Hancock) had the lone Blue Jay extra base hit with a double in the seventh inning.
